Such A Wonderful Mommy!

Some women are the motherly type. It is in their make up. They have dreamed of being a mother since they were little girls. Their children are truly blessed.

And then you have women like me. Perhaps we are missing the mother gene. We haven't always dreamed of being a mom. Somehow we found ourselves pregnant and realized we aren't the motherly type, but we do our best to be a somewhat decent mom to our little ones. We (and our children too) know we will NEVER be June Clever.

My son is 3 so he probably doesn't realize what kind of mother he is stuck with, but I'm sure he will find out in the next couple of years. Bless his heart. In case you don't know I'm from the south and all southern women are suppose to constantly say "bless your heart". I don't, but many do. Hmmm...maybe I'm not good at being a southern either.

Anyway, my little angel started Pre-K in August. His class is having a Halloween party next week and all the moms are suppose to bring something. I had to call the room mother this morning to let her know what I was going to bring. I know many of the mothers in Colin's class are stay at home moms. Most stay at home mothers are bakers, but I'm not a home maker and I definitely don't bake. When I called the room mother this morning I got her voice mail so I decided I needed to let her know up front that I'm not good at baking things. I didn't want her leaving a message on my voice mail that I needed to bring cookies, brownies, or something that involves baking.

The room mom calls me back a few minutes later and says "I hear you don't bake". I tell it is true, but add that if Publix's bakery sells it then I can bring it. I guess she wasn't confident enough in my ability to even purchase baked goods so she suggests that I bring the drinks and cups. I agree and then LUCKILY I stop myself before I say anything else. She then goes on to say that she doesn't like to really use themes for her parties (heck me either! I don't even throw parties, so using a theme is definitely out), but she was thinking maybe we could have orange juice and orange gatorade in keeping with the Halloween/autumn theme. Thank God she mentioned what beverages she preferred because (read the part above about the missing mother gene) for some reason I was thinking about bringing soda. I kid you not. I guess I was thinking about most of the parties I attend which are adult or family get togethers where sodas are preferred. The kids parties and kid oriented things are all new to me.

I'm so glad I didn't mention bringing sodas to the room mother. She would have been horrified.

I'm such a great mom! Along with my sodas maybe I can bring (store bought) chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting so Colin's classmates can ping off the walls. I bet if I did I wouldn't be asked to bring anything else the rest of year. Perhaps that is an idea. LOL!
